Civil Engineering Services Announcement

We are pleased to announce that Comprehensive Engineering now offers Civil Engineering design services.  With the addition of Civil Engineering, we can provide a complete and coordinated engineering package from site selection and site plan approval to final construction documents.

Our new Civil Engineering group will be lead by Elaine Westhouse, PE, an engineer we have known and worked with for many years.  Elaine has been providing civil engineering design in the West Michigan area for over 20 years and has been a licensed professional engineer since 1991.  She has a wide range of expertise in site design and development of commercial, industrial, residential and educational projects.  Elaine has worked with most of the municipalities throughout West Michigan and is very familiar with various State of Michigan agency requirements as well.  Her experience will help guide our clients through the site plan approval process as well as coordination of site design with architectural and engineering requirements on projects.

Elaine emphasizes sustainability practices in site design with an eye on the practicality and cost of various design options.  Her past projects include site design for the Grand Rapids Water/Environmental Services Facility, which is the first municipally owned LEED certified building in Michigan.  This site included an under the pavement detention/infiltration system, porous pavers and permitting for the relocation of a City drainage swale.   Her experience aslo includes design of a 60,000 gallon below ground storage chamber to provide irrigation water at Kingsbury Place Apartments located in Walker.  Currently she is providing the design for pervious asphalt for a project in Grand Rapids.  Her experience includes site layout, grading, sanitary and storm sewer design, water distribution, lift stations, on-site treatment systems, and storm water management.  We can also coordinate with or include landscape design and surveying services.

We believe that offering Civil Engineering services is the next step to providing our customers with a complete engineering package for your building projects.  We feel that by adding civil engineering services to our firm, we will continue to improve the quality of our projects with better communication and coordination.  We do understand that there may be circumstances where all engineering on a given project may not be required of Comprehensive Engineering, and we want you to feel comfortable choosing the individual engineering service that best suits your project.
